Modi Cabinet 2.0: From Nirmala Sitharaman to Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, here are the portfolio allocations of the six women ministers in the second Narendra Modi-led NDA government

With the number of women elected in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls being the highest ever, PM Narendra Modi's new government has six women ministers. The ministers range from those with experience, having been Union Ministers earlier in PM Modi's previous term as the Prime Minister, and those who have fought form the grassroots and bring new energy to the government.

With the number of women elected in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls being the highest ever, PM Narendra Modi's new government has six women ministers. The ministers range from those with experience, having been Union Ministers earlier in PM Modi's previous term as the Prime Minister, and those who have fought form the grassroots and bring new energy to the government.

Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman has been given the portfolio of Finance with an additional charge of Minister of Corporate Affairs. 

In the previous term held by Modi government (2014-2019), she was made the Minister of State, Commerce and Industry, with independent charge in 2014 after being elected as the member of Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh. In 2016, she was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha in Karnataka. During this period she was given the charge of ministries of finance and corporate affairs. Following the cabinet reshuffle, she was made the Raksha Mantri. It was during the term as the Defence Minister, India carried an air strike against Pakistan-based terror camps across LoC in Jammu and Kashmir following the Pulwama terror attacks. 

Smriti Irani

Irani has been given the made the Minister of Women and Child Development and has been reassigned the Ministry of Textiles as an additional charge.

She was given the portfolio of Human Resources and Development in PM Modi's cabinet in 2014 after NDA came to power with a massive mandate winning 282 seats. She was later given the Textiles Ministry in 2016 after the cabinet reshuffle. She was given the additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India) briefly as Venkaiah Naidu had quit from the ministry to fight the Vice Presidential Elections.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal

The MP from Bathinda has been reassigned the Ministry of Food Processing of which she was in-charge in the previous Modi government.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti

The MP from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been made the Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development. She had held the portfolio of Minister of State for Food Processing Industries in the previous term of Modi government.

Renuka Singh Saruta:

The newly elected MP from Sarguja, Chhattisgarh has been made the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Debasree Chaudhuri

The new Raiganj MP has been made the Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
