Modi Cabinet 2.0: Nitin Gadkari is the new Minister of Road Transport & Highways, MSMEs; full portfolio list of the second Narendra Modi-led NDA government out

The anticipation surrounding the ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet in his second term ended at the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.

The anticipation surrounding the ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet in his second term ended at the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. However, there was an obvious curiosity on which minister is given the responsibility of which portfolio. On Friday, the list of Ministers in the Union Cabinet was finally announced, and Nitin Gadkari will be in charge of the Road Transport and Highways Ministry and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises portfolios.

In PM Modi’s first term in charge in 2014, Gadkari, one of the most experienced leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was the Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping. In the cabinet reshuffle in September 2017, he was also given charge of the  Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. 

In the previous government, Giriraj Singh was Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. 

The veteran leader updated his Twitter bio as soon as the announcement of the portfolios were made.  

Gadkari is also a Member of Parliament representing the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Lok Sabha, having beaten Congress’ Nana  Patole by 216009 votes in the recently-held elections.
