Taking a break from the electoral campaigning amid the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar in a "non-political" interview where he shared anecdotes from his personal life and beyond on news agency ANI. Speaking during the interview, 'Khiladi' Kumar asked PM Modi him if he ever thought that one day he will become the Prime Minister of India.
Responding to the question, PM Modi professed that he never thought about it, adding that her mother would have been equally happy if he would have gotten a small job.
"I never thought of it. And common people do not think about it. People who might become one think about it. It is quite natural that people who come such (political) family background have the desire (to be PM). With my family background, my mother would have been celebrating by feeding jaggery to neighbours if I would have gotten even a small job. She would have been that her son got a job, because in those times we did not see anything outside the village. This journey kept on going and the country kept me moving ahead. Responsibilities kept on coming," the Prime Minister said.
Later, stating that he is overwhelmed with the love he has received from the people of India after becoming the Prime Minister, he said:
"In my perspective, it looks unnatural because of my background, my life, sometimes, even I am amazed how much love the country gives me."
Earlier, the Bollywood actor asked PM Modi how he manages to get through the day with just three hours of sleep.
To this, the Prime Minister replied saying, “Whenever I meet Obama, he also asks me the same thing. He asks me why I do this. Every time he meets me, he asks me if I have started sleeping more or not.”
