With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections looming ever closer, the Prime Minister's NaMo app appears to be in the process of transitioning into a central hub for volunteers, on-ground and online, who wish to recreate the 'Modi wave' that swept all before it in 2014.

Apart from the older go-to sections, namely Mann Ki Baat, Exam Warriors, News, Connect with PM, and others, the NaMo app has now been updated with new options for volunteering, purchasing merchandise and making micro-donations.

VOLUNTEERING

Once a user signs up as a volunteer, alternatives for 'digital volunteering' and 'onground tasks' become available. Digital volunteering appears to be focused towards sharing content via social media and gamification. The content to be shared is available on the app in various categories and a user gets 'points' for sharing and this reflects in a leaderboard.

THE MERCHANDISE SECTION

The merchandise section contains a full-blown online store with a selection of T-shirts, Notebooks, Stickers, magnets, mugs, caps and pens, with prices ranging between Rs 99 and about Rs 299. The designs follow a set of standard motifs. These include:

"Namo for respect"
"Namo again"
"Modified India"
"New Youthful India - Yuva Shakti"
"Swachh Bharat"
"Women-led development"
"Making India"

MAKING DONATIONS

The micro-donation section features the tagline "Contribute and Strengthen" and description: "Your contribution is a great way to express support to the BJP. It will enhance the determination of lakhs of Karyakartas towards building a new India". Contribution amounts are: Rs 5, 50, 100, 500, 1000.

The NaMo App's listing on the Google Play store states that it has over five million (5,000,000+) installs, and a 4.6 rating based on 2,09,722 reviews.

The 'What's New' section features an account of the latest update, which was on Monday:

"New look and feel with a better user experience.

An all new Volunteer Platform which helps you connect, collaborate and contribute towards the building of New India. It enables you to take part in multiple Online & Onground activities and tasks.

Launching an all new Merchandise section where you can find the latest NaMo Merchandise like T-Shirts, note-books and more.

A new Donations section, empowering you to directly donate to the BJP."
