After quitting the primary membership of the Indian National Congress, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, in what appears to be a mere strategy, said, she is a 'social worker' and does not belong to any party. Earlier, on October 22, it was reported that Navjot Kaur had quit the party after a public spat broke out between her husband with Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who has admonished Navjot Singh Sidhu on multiple occasions over his behaviour. Sources report that Kaur's statement which comes right after the recently concluded by-polls in Punjab and State polls in Maharashtra and Haryana is a new method of the Sidhu couple putting pressure on the Congress leadership.

Sidhu's New Strategy

Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Tuesday, October 22, referring to Punjab by-polls, stated she was not interested in the polls this time and has nothing to with anything happening beyond her constituency. She said, "I will fight for the people of the state as a social worker, I do not belong to any political party and neither do I own any political position. I will work as a social activist only". This comes after Congress' star campaigner Navjot Singh Sidhu was not called for campaigning for the Punjab by-election. It was also reported earlier that Haryana Congress leaders had also persuaded the top brass to bar Sidhu from campaigning for the by-polls.

Navjot Singh Sidhu says, "Still a part of Congress"

After lying low for weeks following a change in his portfolio in the Punjab cabinet, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu met his supporters in July, telling them he remains with the Congress. Sidhu met supporters, including local municipal councillors, at his home. "It was made clear at the meeting that he has resigned from the Punjab cabinet but certainly not from the party. He motivated everybody at the meeting to work hard for the party", said Monika Sharma, who was among the municipal councillors present there. Navjot Singh Sidhu was earlier with the BJP and joined the Congress just ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls in 2017. His relations with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh were strained and he was stripped of his Local Government and Tourism portfolios in a reshuffle on June 6.
