A series of resignations have followed after reports of Rahul Gandhi being upset over senior leaders not taking responsibility for the Lok Sabha polls debacle.

The latest on Saturday evening is from Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa who resigned from his post of Vice-Chairman, AICC. In his letter of resignation, he said that Rahul Gandhi had set an example by resigning from his post and the same must be followed by CWC members, chief ministers, state chiefs and office bearers from the party. He added that those who did not resign are putting their personal gain over party's growth.

He also said that the party was facing an existential crisis.

Below is his resignation letter to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal:

Speaking to Republic TV, he said, "See, what I feel is that senior leaders of the parties, be it CWC members, state chiefs, all must all take joint responsibility."

His resignation comes after the likes of PL Punia, the Chhattisgarh Congress in-charge (known to be close to Sonia Gandhi), UP Congress's senior vice president Ranjit Singh Judev, general secretary Aradhna Mishra Mona, Kisan Congress President and BJP rebel Nana Patole quit from their posts.

"We met about assembly elections. We have resigned as support to Rahul's resignation and we will fight as soldiers. The meeting is happening on assembly election," Patole said.

After more than 200 resignations in the Congress, the Youth Congress has released a statement earlier on Saturday saying Rahul Gandhi never asked for resignations from top leadership.

In the statement, it condemned the "fake news being circulated" in the media that Rahul Gandhi had expressed concern to youth Congress leaders that nobody from the senior leadership of the party was taking responsibility for its drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections.

They have called the reports "fictitious and part of false propaganda" and that the stories were spread with the "sole motive of lowering the morale of the workers" ahead of assembly polls.  It added that the Indian Youth Congress stood firmly with the party and the leadership.
