Omar Abdullah who often tweets on current events usually with sarcasm or tongue-in-cheek humour posted one about Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation as a minister in the Punjab cabinet. In his usual style of biting wit, he mocked the Congress saying that they are facing issues even in Punjab where they were doing well and wondered how it would feel to be in the BJP right now, the grand old party's key political rival, with the Congress in shambles in most states,
Navjot Singh Sidhu announced that he has resigned as a minister in the Punjab cabinet. He addressed his resignation to 'Congress president Rahul Gandhi'. The resignation is dated on June 10, 2019 and is on a letterhead which says 'Local Government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Archives & Tourism Minister' despite his portfolio being changed to that of Power Ministry. Sidhu had not taken up the portfolio of Power minister and has been absent from his post since the cabinet reshuffle took place over a month ago in June.
Following the reshuffle and the brickbats he faced for being absent from his post, he had tweeted on June 10 saying he had handed Rahul Gandhi the 'letter' and posted on the social media platform a photo of him with the Gandhi scion, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Ahmed Patel.
On June 21, posters with Navjot Singh Sidhu were put on the walls of roadside in Punjab's Mohali district, questioning the Congress leader on when will he quit politics. "When are you quitting politics??? Time to keep your word," read the posters.
It was in reference to a Lok Sabha campaign speech where Sidhu made a promise saying that he will quit politics if Congress President Rahul Gandhi will lose from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi to BJP's Smriti Irani in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections.
