Hack:

  • Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray has sought out action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam
  • While addressing a press conference, Uddhav Thackeray twisted the wording of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign and mounted a scathing attack on the ruling government

A day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam raked up a controversy while talking about proposing to women and then offering to 'kidnap' them for men, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray has sought out action against the MLA. While addressing a press conference, Uddhav Thackeray twisted the wording of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign and mounted a scathing attack on the ruling government.

"I think Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should take action against Ram Kadam. Has BJP started a 'Beti Bhagao Campaign'?", he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Minister attracted flak for his statement following which he took to Twitter and issued an apology.

Rough Translation: I express regret if anyone got offended with my statement. A 54 sec video is being used to portray me in the wrong light by the opposition. There were a lot of journalists present when I made the statement and none of them objected as they knew the context.

Earlier on Tuesday, a video shared by NCP MLA  Dr.Jitendra Awhad‏ on a micro-blogging site went viral. MLA Ram Kadam was clearly heard making the outrageous 'promise'.

"You can call me.. if you call me saying I have proposed a girl and need your help.. I will definitely help you.. I will call your parents and ask them...If they say they like that girl then... I will kidnap that girl and give it you.. now take my number", Ram Kadam said while addressing a crowd of thousands that had gathered to witness his Dahi Handi festival.

When confronted by Republic TV, the MLA tried to justify his irresponsible statement and said:

"That was just an interaction with the people over there. I clearly mentioned that they shoulkd first take permission from their parents before getting married. I dis not mean to kidnap girls".

He went on to take a complete U-turn and said that he will not apologize for the bizarre statement.

"That was not my statement. People were gossiping there and they made those statement. I will not apologize for the statement because it was not mine".
