Pakistan government has openly come out to campaign for Congress President Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister of India. Many Pakistani leaders are miffed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose government called of the talks between the two countries at UNGA, hence, they have come out in support of the Congress President. Here's the timeline as to how the entire issue surfaced:

September 21, 2018: It all started when Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and hit out at the Modi- government over Rafale deal. In his first tweet, Rahul lauded former France Minister François Hollande for exposing the lies in the Rafale deal. Hollande had stated that the Indian government had chosen Anil Ambani's Reliance as the interlocutor for Rafale.

In his second Tweet, Rahul Gandhi stated that 'PM Modi and Anil Ambani jointly carried out 'SURGICAL STRIKE' on the Indian Defence forces.

September 22, 2018: Just a day after Rahul's tweet, Pakistan's Information and Broadcast minister Fawad Hussain took to Twitter and referred Rahul Gandhi's tweets to mount a scathing attack on BJP. He shared screenshots of Rahul's tweets on his twitter handle and captioned it as: "These tweets explain BJP led Tirade against Pakistan, Apni Jang Khud Lado #RafaelDeal"

September 23, 2018: Soon to follow the track was another ex-minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik, who went a step ahead and declared Rahul Gandhi as the next PM of India. He not only stated that 'Rahul will beat PM' but also urged Indian people to respect him. He took to Twitter and campaigned for Rahul Gandhi.

In the wee hours of Monday, the former Interior Minister of Pakistan also posted a video against PM Modi, in which Rahul Gandhi was attacking him over the Rafale deal.

This is not the first time Pakistan has extended it's support to Rahul Gandhi. During the 2018 Karnataka election, a time when Congress and BJP were locking horns to win the voting battle, Pakistan commemorated 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan as 'Tiger of Mysore' on his 218th Death anniversary. It was in a form of a tweet on the official twitter handle of Pakistan Government.

The tweet worked as a fuel fiery campaign rhetoric between the two parties in the poll-bound Karnataka.

Earlier during the Gujarat elections in 2017, BOFORS petitioner and senior BJP leader Ajay Agrawal claimed that he had proof of a secret meeting between Pakistan Government's informal representative, former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh and suspended Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. Agrawal had alleged that the meeting took place a day before Aiyar's ‘neech’ comment, i.e. December 6.

The Pakistani High Commissioner along with former Vice President of India Hamid Ansari and former the former PM visited the residence of Mani Shankar Aiyar in the national capital.
