Parliament session for budget to be held from June 17 to June 26: Sources

The Union budget session will be held from 17 June to 26 July, sources have said. The newsbreak comes following the first-ever cabinet meeting held by PM Narendra Modi.

Nirmala Sitharaman has been appointed as the new Finance Minister by PM Narendra Modi. Her portfolio was announced among others on Friday morning by President Ram Nath Kovind under the advice of PM Narendra Modi, a day after the Prime Minister and his cabinet took oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Earlier on Friday, PM Narendra Modi and his cabinet of ministers held the first ever meeting at South Block in Secretariat building. Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar and Jitender Singh Tomar will hold a media briefing at 7.30 pm about the cabinet meeting. 

The decision of extending the PM-Kisan Yojana's periphery was taken on Friday. Under this scheme, households with agricultural landholdings smaller than two hectares or five acres are eligible to receive Rs 6,000 annually as direct benefit transfers from the Centre.

PM Narendra Modi's government took another big decision amid its first-ever cabinet meeting. The very first decision of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on assuming his office has been to enhance the rate of scholarship and include State Police Personnel in the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme’ under the National Defence Fund.

On Thursday, PM Modi and his ministers of the cabinet took oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by 8,000 guests which included world leaders.

PM Modi had held the first-ever bilateral meeting since forming the government on Thursday itself, with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
