In an observation reportedly aimed at the Congress party, without actually naming them, Union Minister for Roadways Nitin Gadkari has stated that his party doesn't believe in 'nepotism', and that BJP has all but ended the one family politics. Speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Vijaya Lakshya 2019 in Hyderabad, Gadkari said:

"We're a rich nation with poor population. Those who ruled benefited their own families. PM's son or daughter becomes PM. CM's son or daughter became CM. MLAs and MPs son or daughter became MP. Democracy was close to being non-existent. We've changed this."

Further attacking the family politics, the senior BJP leader claimed that his party didn't believe in such politics, which is the reason why BJP was never known by the names of the leaders.

"BJP is not one family's party. It is not a party which does politics on basis of caste, religion, language. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji was our tallest leader, but BJP was never identified with his or LK Advani Ji's name... Today there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Amit Shah Ji. Leadership has kept changing, but this party has never run on any particular person's name. This party functions on the basis of thoughts and principles," he added.

Tripura CM Biplab Dev, who was also present at the location alongside Gadkari, agreed to the Union minister's views. He said, " I was made the chief minister when I was a very small leader of the party. The Prime Minister's government is a public government and has done a lot for the welfare of the poor people of the nation, whereas Rahul Gandhi only raises issues only during the time of elections."

At the same rally, the Gadkari also opened up on the future plans Modi government. "By December the BJP government will supply electricity to each and every village in India. Our government is changing the villages into smart villages. Modi led government is committed to working in the direction of good governance and the nation's development," the Minister for Roadways and Transport also mentioned.
