Lashing out at the public violence displayed by BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the act by the son of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayavargiya, at the BJP Parliamentary meeting on 2 July.

PM Modi expressed his discontent at the incident and said that leaders like Akash Vijayvargiya were spoiling the image of the party. "The party does not need a leader like him who spoils its image", he said, as per sources

Akash Vijayavargiya was caught on camera thrashing civic officials in Indore, Madhya Pradesh when they were on an anti-encroachment drive. The local MLA was seen hitting the officials with a cricket bat, slapping and kicking them along with other BJP workers who joined in the attack and in addition, verbally abused the officials. Akash was arrested by the police and was remanded for two days, with the court denying him bail in the case before being released on June 30. Akash was given a grand welcome as he was released and visuals showed sweets being distributed to people at the leader's residence.

"This was my first experience in jail and it was good. In jail, there is a protocol for MLA's and it was given the same protocol. But because I'm married now, a married man does not have the right to enjoy alone, so I was hoping to get bail. I am happy that I have come out on bail", he said after he was released from jail on bail.

After the incident occurred, Akash had said, "Indore Municipal Corporation is behaving like gundas, they are in tie-up with Congress leaders. I am a leader chosen by the people. I will not back off from the attack. I have been voted by the people to serve them. I will do whatever it takes even if it means lifting a bat and stopping officials. I stand by my actions.". He also claimed that goons had dragged women out of their houses by their feet and that there were no women police around. Hence, he mounted the assault on the civic officials.

After his release from the jail, he said that he will lead the path on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and will try his best that to ensure that justice is done to every family in his constituency. "I will try to do every work as per the ideals of Gandhiji. I will pray that God never gives me a chance again to do this. I don't regret whatever happened. I knew the repercussions of my action. I did what I felt right," Akash said. His father Kailash, meanwhile, has feigned ignorance over his son's actions while earlier, BJP MP Dilip Ghosh called him a 'shaant ladka' (quiet boy).
