PM Narendra Modi questioned the Opposition over its stance supporting Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that despite knowing that it was not good for the country, the Opposition did not take any action against it as feared losing elections.

"There was no opposition against removal Article 370. Everyone has been supporting it through one way or other. But owing to politics, those looking at the matter through the lens of elections, have been saying something or the other about supporting Article 370. Those who have been advocating for Article 370, the country asks them if Article 370 and Article 35 A was so significant and life-changing, why did you not make it a permanent one? Why did you keep it as a temporary provision? This means, even you know, what happened was not right, but you did not have the guts to change it. For me the country's future is everything. Political future means nothing to me."

Centre revokes Article 370

PM Narendra Modi's government last week brought resolutions in the Upper and Lower Houses of the Constitution to abrogate Article 370 which gave the state of Jammu and Kashmir a special identity apart from that of India. The bills related to it were passed in both the Houses with overwhelming majority. President Ram Nath Kovind also gave his assent to the Bill, thereby integrating the region with the rest of India.
