In a massive political scoop from Jammu- Kashmir, sources have told Republic TV that the Bharatiya Janata Party is in touch with dissenting People Democratic Front (PDP) MLAs, and is pitching for a Hindu Chief Minister.
Sources have told Republic TV that BJP’s J-K leadership has conveyed to its cadre that they will form an alliance , only if its Hindu CM pitch is agreed upon. As per sources, 14 PDP MLAs have expressed dissent from Mehbooba Mufti’s leadership and are ready to change sides.
And, Republic TV has learnt that BJP has conveyed categorically to the dissenting PDP ministers that they will have to a different party and then have to support a ‘Hindu’ face for the CM position. Sources have also claimed that BJP has promised to include all the dissenting MLAs as ministers on fulfillment of the promise.
Notably, the state of Jammu-Kashmir has never had a Hindu Chief Minister.
Earlier on July 3, Republic TV had learnt that former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has been facing a potential split within the ranks of the PDP as twelve of the 28 PDP MLAs are ready to defect.
However, after the reports surfaced the Congress made it clear that it is not looking to form a government in the state for 'just a few months' and wants early elections to be held instead.
Prior to this, Ghulam Nabi Azad had also said that the Congress wouldn't enter into an alliance with the PDP -- a statement that Omar Abdullah took to be sacrosanct, sticking to his stated view that his party isn't looking to form a government in the state till the current assembly is dissolved and fresh elections are held.
The Congress held a meeting at former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence on Monday after which Ambika Soni indicated that the party will begin its preparation for elections by informing the people of J&K about the policies and work done by the UPA 1 & 2.
The Mehbooba Mufti-led government collapsed on June 19 as the BJP withdrew its support. Governor's rule has since been imposed in the state.
