Actor Prakash Raj on Tuesday announced that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. He said that he will declare the constituency from where he is contest soon.

Actor Prakash Raj on Tuesday announced that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. He said that he will declare the constituency from where he will contest soon.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE..a new beginning .. more responsibility.. with UR support I will be contesting in the coming parliament elections as an INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. Details of the constituency soon. Ab ki baar Janatha ki  SARKAR #citizensvoice #justasking in parliament too...", he tweeted.

The actor has been vocal about several issues and has vehemently opposed the Centre in the past.

The actor has not pledged any alliance to any party so far. 

The countdown to the polls has already begun with BJP and Congress seeking alliances from prominent regional parties. 

Last year, actors Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth had announced that they will joining the politics. 

Kamal Haasan created a party called the Makkal Needhi Maiam. The actor-turned-politician also stated that his party is open to alliances with like-minded parties which was would focus on the development of Tamil Nadu. He also asserted that he would not come in alliance with any party that will try to change the 'DNA of Tamil Nadu'.

"I’m not ready to be forced into an alliance. I am keeping my options open, but maybe is not a yes. Don’t align me with Mahagatbandhan. Keeping my options open for 2019," said Kamal Hassan when asked whether he will join the grand alliance (Mahagathbandhan,"he said

Earlier too, Kamal Haasan had ruled out any alliance with either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). 

Rajinikanth is yet to officially announce his plans to contest polls.
