President Kovind appoints Anusuiya Uikey as Governor of Chhattisgarh, Biswa Bhusan Harichandran as Governor of Andhra Pradesh

President of India has appointed Anusuiya Uikey as governor of Chattisgarh and Biswa Bhusan Harichandran as Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

President of India has appointed Anusuiya Uikey as governor of Chhattisgarh and Biswa Bhusan Harichandran as Governor of Andhra Pradesh. This comes a day after the appointment of governors for the state of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Acharya Devvrat was apointed as the governor of Gujarat and Kalraj Mishra as the governor of Himachal Pradesh on July 16.

While Anusuiya Uikey is a politician from BJP and a member of the Parliament of India representing Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha,Biswa is senior leader of BJP who was elected to Odisha assembly for five times from Vhubaneshwar and Chilika. He was also a former law minister in BJD-BJP government in Odisha in 2004.  Currently ESL Narsimhan is serving as a governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and former chief minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel was appointed as governor of Chattisgarh. 

Nine governors, including in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, will be completing their five-year terms in the next three months. The three states where the focus remains are Uttar Pradesh where governor Ram Naik  will retire on July 21,  West Bengal governor KN Tripathi will retire on July 23 and Tripura governor Kaptan Singh Solanki will retire on July 26, completing their respective five-year tenure.

Under Article 155 and Article 156 of the Constitution, a governor is an appointee of the President of India, and s/he holds the office during the pleasure of the President. The Press communique read as follows:

The President of India is pleased to make the following appointments:

Sushri AnusuiyaUikey as Governor of Chhattisgarh
Shri Biswa Bhusan Harichandran as Governor of Andhra Pradesh 

The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of tehir respective offices.
