Prince Charles hails the contribution of Sikh Community on 550th Gurpurab

The Prince of Wales has lauded the contributions of the Sikh community living in the United Kingdom and praised the founding principles of Sikhism on Gurpurab

Ahead of an official visit to India, The Prince of Wales lauded the contribution of Sikh Community living in the United Kingdom and praised the founding principles of Sikhism that has inspired the world to be “selfless”. He also conveyed his “warmest wishes” to the followers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on his birth anniversary. This is his tenth visit to India.

Prince Charles extends wishes to Sikh Community

Prince Charles is on a two-day visit to India where he will be visiting a Sikh Temple in Delhi to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji- the founder of Sikhism and the first of ten Sikh Gurus. Prior to his departure The Prince of Wales released a statement with his best wishes for the people of United Kingdom as well as the commonwealth for celebrating 550 years of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and his messages.

“As I depart for India, on my tenth official visit, I did just want to convey my warmest best wishes to all of you in the Sikh Community in the United Kingdom, and across the Commonwealth, on the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji”, he said. He also emphasized the principles of Sikhism that has inspired the world.

'Principles of Guru Nanak guide lives to this day'

“The principles on which Guru Nanak founded the Sikh religion, and which guide your lives to this day, are ones which can inspire us all – hard work, fairness, respect, and selfless service to others. In embodying these values, Sikhs have made the most profound contribution to the life of this country, and continue to do so, in every imaginable field, just as you do in so many other places around the world”, he added.

Addressing the Sikh Community, Prince Charles who will join the Duchess of Cornwall in Auckland said that he “valued and admired” the community. “This week as Sikhs everywhere honour the founder of your faith, my wife and I wanted you to know just how much your community is valued and admired by us all, and that our thoughts are with you at this very special time”, he said. The Prince who turns 71 on Thursday will be meeting President Ram Nath Kovind to discuss a range of issues. However, the particular emphasis would be disaster resilience and climate change.
