Congress president Rahul Gandhi has offered his first written statement on the formal entry of his sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra into the Congress party as General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress president who is currently visiting his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi, has tweeted along the same lines as he had spoken in his first and most-detailed briefing on the matter:
Speaking shortly after his arrival in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi had remarked that his appointment of sister Priyanka wasn't just for the elections, rather he had given her and Jyotiraditya Scindia (appointed Congress General Secretary Uttar Pradesh West) the mission of taking all sections of society forward under the Congress' ideology. He had also praised his sister, calling her talented, and adding that he was personally happy to have her work alongside him.
Rahul Gandhi had also taken the opportunity to make overtures to Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav who had shunned the Congress while stitching together their own alliance. The Congress president said that they were not his enemies, in fact, their ideologies were similar to the Congress, and that the true battle was against the BJP. Accordingly, he offered that if the parties had any suggestions on how to work together to defeat the BJP, the Congress was all ears.
The entry of Priyanka Gandhi into active politics has been met with jubilation from Congress party leaders, many of whom have cited that this was a decision that was long due but has been taken at the right time. A number of BJP leaders, on the other hand, have cited how once again the Congress is resorting to the promotion of dynasty.
