  • Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has courted controversy by his recent set of comments against the Election Commission
  • The states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram went to polls in the past month

A day before the results are announced of the five states, including Rajasthan, which headed into elections in the past month, senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has courted controversy by his recent set of comments against the Election Commission.

Speaking to ANI about the recently concluded polls, the son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit stated that the EC officials should be jailed while accusing them of working on the behest of a party. He said,

"It is out in open that the Election Commission is failing. Have you seen any EC around the world which says that we have cut 8% of the votes. If I block someone from casting vote, there will be action against me. Shouldn't the same happen with the officials? According to me, every member of EC should be put behind bars. You have acted against my fundamental right, how can you get away with just a sorry? If 8-10 voters are missed out, it may be a mistake. They have in a way killed the democracy by cutting 8% of the votes. They are so shameless. Are they getting commission for EVM, I don't know. In the past 4-5 years, the EC has demolished its working. People like me and many more have lost faith."

There were a couple of EVM malfunctions incidents reported during the polling in Rajasthan. Glitches related to voting machines were reported at several places, which had resulted in ruckus at some of the polling booths. A total of 72.84% voter turnout was recorded in the state.

As per the exit polls carried out by Republic TV, the Congress is set to overthrow Vasundhara Raje's government and come to power in the state. Out of five exit polls that are part of Republic TV's #PollOfPolls, four of them have predicted the Congress party to form the government in Rajasthan with triple-digit seat share.
