Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that Rahul Gandhi represented a legacy of fabricators while answering a question to Republic TV's Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami about the 'audio tape' released by the Congress which the party claims has Goa minister Vishwajit Rane allegedly telling someone that the Rafale files were in former Defence Minister and present Goa CM Manohar Parrikar's house.

"I have two responses - one political and other in parliamentary parlance. My political response is that Rahul Gandhi represents a legacy of fabricators. When VP Singh threatened the then Congress Prime Minister in 1987, in 1989 an account was fabricated in VP Singh's son's name at St Kitt. The Congress went tomtoming that VP Singh's son also has a bank account so others can have it. He also concocted a conversation with Macron (France President). France has officially denied it. Today they have manufactured the tape.

My Parliamentary response is - when I challenged in the lower house, he has refused to authenticate the tape and the text of the tape. The Speaker told him you can authenticate the tape and place it. The moment he authenticates the tape and places it in the house he will be guilty of forgery, he will be guilty of fabrication, he will be guilty of breach of privilege, which is a scar on Parliamentary career of any individual, so he backtracks. Well, I won't authenticate it.

A lot of muck can fly around as far as public discourse is concerned. You don't need authentication in front of media friends. I dare him to place it infront of Parliament.

If he is so confident about authentication of the tape I dare him once again to  authenticate and place it in the Parliament"

Arun Jaitley also said that the Congress president lacks "elementary understanding".

Jaitley said, "He (Rahul Gandhi) has a passionate dislike for truth" accusing him of manufacturing data."

He later notified Rahul Gandhi of the difference between a weaponsised aircraft and that of a simple one, "There  is something very elementary, that an Aircraft per se is not a weapon but only a flying vehicle, it is of no use in a war unless it is weaponised."

He called out the Congress president of comparing "two unequals" and lashed out at him for the "lack of wisdom and comprehension"
