Following Rahul Gandhi's resignation as Congress president, there has been chaos in the grand old party leading to a division among the members.
As per sources, Gandhi loyalist Motilal Vora is likely to be made the interim president of the party. However, top leaders in the party are against the decision, the sources added. This has led to a rift in Congress.
Top brass in the party including Ahmed Patel and other senior leaders Congress party were unhappy with the decision of making Vora the interim president. It was decided earlier that as per the Constitution of Congress party Vora would be the interim president as he is the senior-most in the party. But on Wednesday evening, the decision was changed, sources said.

The sources also said that the party leadership has not taken a final call on the next Congress chief. The meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has not been called yet to make the decision. Rahul Gandhi himself has not tendered his resignation to the CWC.
Earlier on Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi gave her first statement on her brother's resignation as Congress chief. She said that very few had the courage to take such a decision and that she respected him for it.
Sources have said that some party leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are inclined in have family loyalists such as Sushil Kumar Shinde and Ashok Gehlot as the next party president. But another faction wants young guns such as Sachin Pilot to lead them, the sources added.
