Rahul Gandhi resigns as Congress chief, claims he 'Fought entire machinery of Indian state, at times completely alone' as he fearmongers in his resignation letter

After a month-long resignation saga, Rahul Gandhi has formally resigned from the post of Congress President releasing a 4-page letter on Wednesday, accepting responsibility for the Congress party's loss in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In his letter he states that while it would be unjust to hold others accountable while ignoring his own responsibility, the ex-Congress president has said that he would not select the next president as suggested by the Congress members, passing the baton back to the party.

" Many of my colleagues suggested that I nominate the next Congress President. While it is important for someone new to lead our party, it would not be correct for me to select that person," he writes.

Rahul Gandhi has added that after resigning he had immediately suggested to his colleagues in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) that they should form a group to search for a new president and has committed his full support to the 'smooth transition' process.

Slamming BJP's idea of India, he has written that his resistance towards the saffron party has stemmed from the ideological difference and not hatred to the party itself, which he states has been waged for 1000 of years which he has vowed that he would vehemently defend.

" Where they see difference, I see similarity. Where they see hatred, I see love. What they fear, I embrace" writes Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking about the 2019 election campaign, he points the difference in approach between the Congress and the BJP stating that the Congress campaigned based on brotherhood, tolerance, and respect, fighting the Prime Minister, the RSS  and other 'captured' institutions. He fails to clearly mention what set his campaign apart from the BJP writing:

" At times, I stood completely alone. I have learned so much from the spirit and dedication of our workers and party members who have taught me about love and decency."

Detailing the lack of free and fair elections without a  free press, an independent judiciary and a transparent election commission he blames the RSS stating that the Congress did not just fight a party in 2019 but a machinery of India which marshalled against the opposition, adding that neutrality no longer exists in India.

"The stated objectives of the RSS, the capture of our country's institutional structure is now complete. Our democracy is fundamentally weakened," he writes adding that election will no longer determine India's future to a mere ritual.

Painting a gruesome picture in a BJP-led India, Rahul Gandhi states that unimaginable amount of violence is in store with farmers, unemployed youngsters, women, tribals, Dalits, and minorities suffering the most claiming 'corruption charges' against PM Modi.

"The Prime Minister's win does not negate the breadth of corruption allegations against him, no amount of money and propaganda can ever hide the light of the truth," writes Gandhi.

Passing the responsibility of resuscitating the Indian institutions to the Congress Party, he suggests that the party must radically transform itself, defending the voice of the India people which is the true essence of Bharat Mata.

"I will continue to fight for the ideas of the Congress party and am available to the party whenever they require my services, input or advice. It is the habit in India that the powerful cling to power, no one sacrifices it," states the former Congress chief.

He concludes the letter that we (Congress) will not defeat their opponents without just sacrificing power but by fighting a deeper ideological battle. Claiming 'Congressman' blood runs through his veins, Rahul Gandhi signs off the party presidency saying that he was born a 'Congressman' and will forever remain so.

The party has  been entangled in a leadership turmoil since Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as Congress Chief during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, as the Congress managed to secure only 52 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections which also saw Gandhi lose his bastion -Amethi, to BJP leader Smriti Irani.
