Following Rahul Gandhi's dramatic resignation, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah commended Gandhi for sticking to his decision. Speaking to media over this development, the former J&K CM further added that Rahul Gandhi is young and can also become the President of the Grand Old Party once again.

"I commend him for sticking to his decision. He is still very young and can go on to become the President of the party once again in the future. He did a lot of work as the party President", said Farooq Abdullah.

On being asked if Rahul Gandhi took the decision solely on the basis of the humiliating defeat in 2019 election, Abdullah added that Gandhi had always wanted someone else to be at the helm and that he would now focus on rebuilding the party.

"No, I don't think it was entirely because of the defeat. Rahul always wanted someone else to take over the reins of the party. I think Rahul will now focus on developing the party and will focus on the Party's growth", he said.
