Rahul Gandhi, several other leaders court arrest after protesting outside CBI headquarters

Soon after he led the massive protest by opposition outside the CBI headquarters in Delhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and several of his party leaders courted arrest, following which they were taken to the Lodhi Road police station in the National Capital.

The Congress supremo, who was leading his party and opposition's charge against the present government following the centre's decision to send CBI Director Alok Verma on leave, spoke out against PM Modi outside the CBI headquarters, before courting arrest while he was on his way back to his residence.

The incident took place just hours after the Supreme Court pronounced that the CVC will be given two weeks to conduct the inquiry into the corruption allegations against Alok Verma, that too under the supervision of a retired SC jude - Justice AK Patnaik, and the matter will be heard by the apex court immediately after the Diwali break on November 12.

Furthermore, the apex court also stated that the incumbent CBI boss, Nageshwar Rao, will not be allowed to take any policy decisions of the investigative agency, and the decisions he has already taken shall be presented to the court by the government in a sealed letter. 

Here is the following order pronounced by the SC:

"The inquiry in respect of allegations made in the note of the cabinet secretary as regards the present CBI director Alok Verma shall be completed by the CVC within a period of 2 weeks. The inquiry to be conducted under the supervision of a retired judge of this court - Justice AK Patnaik who is requested to accept the assignment and ensure that the inquiry is completed within the time frame. L. Nageshwar Rao who has been instructed with the duty of looking after the CBI shall as of from now not take any policy decisions or major decisions and will only perform routine tasks that are essential to keep the CBI functioning."

Verma had filed a petition in the apex court on Wednesday, seeking quashing of him being put on leave while also terming the order of CVC as illegal. The petition lists Alok Kumar Verma IPS as petitioner and the Union of India (Department of Personnel and Training) and the Central Vigilance Commission as respondents.
