Ram Vilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan unanimously elected as LJP chief

In a major development, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan was on Tuesday elected the president of Lok Janshakti Party. Chirag Paswan who is a Lok Sabha MP from Jamui constituency of Bihar was elected unanimously as LJP's president by the party’s national executive. He has been the key decision-maker in the party for a while. Party’s outgoing chief and his father Ram Vilas Paswan informed about the development of media. Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party president Paswan said the decision was taken in the meeting of the national executive in Delhi.

The LJP, which primarily draws its support from a section of Dalits in Bihar, was founded by Ram Vilas Paswan, in 2000. The leader has steered it through changing political scenarios by joining hands with parties with contrasting ideologies and support groups. However, the LJP has been a sought-after partner for all major parties.

Chirag Paswan wins Jamui seat

In Lok Sabha election earlier this year, Chirag Paswan won from Jamui Lok Sabha Constituency. He defeated Bhudeo Choudhary of the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) by receiving 55.75% of the votes cast in this constituency. Jamui went to the polls on April 11 this year in Phase 1. It saw 55.26% of its registered electors turn-out to vote, against 50.01% in the previous national elections held in 2014. Chirag Kumar Paswan defeated his nearest rival, Bhudeo Choudhary, by a margin of 241049 votes. While Paswan received 55.75 votes, runner-up Bhudeo Choudhary polled 30.35 votes. A total of 8 candidates had contested in this constituency. The participation of women candidates was 3. In 2014 Lok Sabha election he won from the seat defeating another RJD candidate. A former actor, Chirag Paswan has acted in a Bollywood movie Miley na Miley hum.
