Savarkar's grandson advises Owaisi, says 'Keep religion at home'

Slamming AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Indian revolutionary Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's grandson Ranjeet, on Friday, said that the AIMIM chief should follow Savarkar's belief of keeping religion private. He said once a person was in public, one was Indian rather than a Hindu and Muslim. He added that Savarkar had expected all who enter Parliament to keep caste, religion, sex etc out. He also claimed that Savarkar was the most secular man.

Owaisi slams Bharat Ratna push

Earlier on Tuesday, Owaisi had slammed BJP's poll promise of awarding Savarkar with the Bharat Ratna citing six statements about the late freedom fighter. He said that Savarkar had been implicated by Jeevan Lal Commission on Gandhi's assassination. He also stated that Savarkar called himself British's 'most obedient servant'. He also pointed out that Savarkar supported the two-nation theory and looked up to Hitler, blaming Jews for the Holocaust.

BJP's manifesto promises Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar

In BJP's Maharashtra manifesto, the saffron party made a pitch for honouring Swatantraveer Savarakar with the Bharat Ratna - the highest civilian honour awarded to Indians. It also pushed for Bharat Ratna for educational reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. BJP released its poll manifesto ahead of the Oct 21  poll date in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis and party working president J P Nadda in Mumbai. The Manifesto is titled - 'Sampanna, Samruddha, Samarth Maharashtra.'

About Veer Savarkar

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar who is also known as Veer Savarkar was an Indian Independence fighter, politician, lawyer and the formulator of 'Hindutva' philosophy. He founded the Abhinav Bharat Society, which wrote extensively on the Indian Independence movement. He was later arrested and sentenced for revolutionary activities to two life terms of imprisonment totalling fifty years and was moved to the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He was later released in 1921.
