Mathura MP and BJP leader Hema Malini on Saturday responded to Omar Abdullah mocking her and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. She said that the cleanliness drive was connected to Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary and his dream of cleanliness. She said it was foolish to make fun of such an initiative
"My point of view is that our Speaker has invited all MPs for the Swachh Abhiyan. It is a wonderful idea, every Parliamentarian is part of the Abhiyan. It has been going on for five years and people of the country must know about it. This is connected to Mahatma Gandhi's anniversary as it was his dream to see the country clean.
"Unko(Omar Abdullah) kuch dimaag nahi he kya? (Doesn't he have any brains?) I am sorry. I am feeling very funny about it. He should understand that it is suggestive. If we are taking a broomstick and start cleaning we are only giving inspiration to the people. We can also do it. If you come to see me in my house I am ready to clean in my house. I will also clean in my constituency if I am allowed to do so. I am much cleaner than other people. It is a suggestive thing, to give inspiration. I am sorry if Omar Abdullah ji was not inspired. But I am only inspiring the people of the country. What is there to mock about it? To make fun about it seems a little foolish. There is nothing funny about this. It is a beautiful movement that Modi ji has brought and everyone has come together. Have they even thought about cleanliness? Now, we are taking the initiative and cleaning the country and giving awareness to the people in cities and in rural areas. So I think it is bizarre to find it funny."
Omar Abdullah had mocked the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was going on in the premises of the Parliament. Several MPs such as Anurag Thakur and Hema Malini participated in it. But the National Conference chief mocked the initiative saying that the Parliament premises do not need cleaning and suggested that Malini did not know how to use a broom.
