SCOOP: Eyeing their position vis-a-vis Congress, Naidu 'supporters' Stalin and Yechury to meet on Tuesday

Even as Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has been trying to consolidate support of major national and regional parties as allies, they seem to be in a rush to gain the upper hand vis-a-vis each other. As per Republic TV sources, some of the leaders in talks with Naidu would like to have more options in forming the mahagatbandhan in order to have a better say in while forming the coalition.

As per sources, CPI(M)'s General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and DMK's MK Stalin will be holding talks on Tuesday evening in order discuss alternatives in terms of having an alliance without the Congress. This comes within days of both the leaders meeting Naidu and giving their support to the alliance against the NDA for the 2019 polls.

MK Stalin had ''promised'' his support for the anti-BJP platform after meeting with Naidu on November 9 and urged parties in Opposition to do the same.

"Federal powers of the state have already been taken off by the BJP government. We are continuously giving voice against the Centre. This government is influencing all agencies including the CBI for their political benefits. Leaders from across the country should come together to oust BJP from power. I have promised complete support to Naidu," he said.

Sitaram Yechury, after his having a meeting with the Andhra CM on November 11, said with an air of assuredness that the Allied Front will win and will form coalition post the election in every single state.

"In 2004, UPA was created after the polls, the coalition was formed in the states. The same will happen in 2019, the coalition will happen in states after the polls, gatbhandhan will happen in the states," he said.

It seems DMK and the CPI(M) want to checkmate Congress by showing they have more options for the coalition, even before the INC does the same as it has Kamal Haasan (Makkal Needhi Maiam) and TTV Dhinakaran (Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam) as other options to form its coalition.

TTV Dhinakaran's party effectively spun off amid acrimony from the AIADMK, and was eventually rechristened as the AMMK. Although the AIADMK has supported the ruling BJP in the coalition after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dhinakaran has said he will support the Congress if they break the alliance with DMK.

"If any party approaches for alliance, we are open for talks. Our aim is to win all the Lok Sabha constituencies. I will always oppose the BJP. That's not a temporary stand. I will always fight them. And an alliance with Congress can happen only if they break their ties with the DMK", Dhinakaran had said.

Earlier, Kamal Haasan too had agreed to support the Congress in an alliance as long as they break up the alliance with DMK. More recently, as per sources, Haasan's party will contest all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.

The meeting on November 13 between Stalin and Yechury and the one on November 22 being hosted by Naidu may throw more light on how these alliances are going to work out.
