Senior Congress leader and eminent lawyer Kapil Sibal has reacted to PM Modi taking up the fitness challenge on Wednesday. Slamming the Prime Minister for his fitness video, Sibal said, “Yoga is good for both the body and the mind. But if the body is flexible and the mind in an inflexible ideological mound then political well being will be in jeopardy.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the fitness challenge thrown at him by Team India skipper Virat Kohli. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi posted a video of his morning exercise and wrote:
“Here are moments from my morning exercises. Apart from Yoga, I walk on a track inspired by the Panchtatvas or 5 elements of nature - Prithvi, Jal, Agni, Vayu, Aakash. This is extremely refreshing and rejuvenating. I also practice breathing exercises. #HumFitTohIndiaFit.”
After completing the challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi challenged newly appointed Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy to post his fitness video on social media. The Prime Minister has also nominated the name of CWG gold medalist Manika Batra and whole fraternity of IPS officers for the challenge.
However, Kumaraswamy refused to accept the challenge saying, “I am more concerned about development fitness of my state &seek ur support for it (sic)."
On May 23, after accepting the challenge of Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, Virat Kohli challenged PM Modi for the same. Apart from the PM, he also nominated his wife Anushka Sharma and former Team India skipper MS Dhoni.
Soon after Virat’s challenge, PM Modi had accepted and wrote, “Challenge accepted, Virat! I will be sharing my own #FitnessChallenge video soon.”
The #FitnessChallenge, which has gone viral on social media is an initiative propagated by Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, the Minister of State with Independent Charge of the Information and Broadcasting, and Youth Affairs and Sports ministries. Following Col Rathore publishing his own video where he demonstrates how he has added a fitness regimen to his daily work-day, and putting the challenge forth to others, people from a number different walks of life, including politicians, members of the Bollywood and film and entertainment industry, members of the sporting fraternity, government employees and other people have taken up the challenge under the slogan 'hum fit toh India fit'.
