Sharad Pawar meets PM Modi; letter by NCP supremo to Prime Minister accessed

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, discussing the plight of farmers in Maharashtra. At the meeting, which comes amid an almighty tussle to form a government in the State and associated political and alliance flux, Pawar issued a letter to the Prime Minister, highlighting the problems of the farmers in Nagpur and Nashik districts. The meeting was held in the Parliament on Wednesday.

In his letter to PM Modi, Pawar wrote, "Due to the prevalence of Presidential Rule in the state, your urgent intervention is highly necessitated. I shall be grateful if you take immediate steps to initiate massive relief measures and ameliorate the miseries of distressed farmers."

Here is the letter:

This is the first meeting between Modi and Pawar after the imposition of President’s rule in Maharashtra, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena had a pre-poll alliance but they could not stick together to form a government despite their alliance getting a majority. Earlier, BJP’s former ally Shiv Sena, too, has hit out at the government for not considering the situation as natural calamity and providing relief to farmers from central resources.

After the meeting with PM Modi, the NCP chief Sharad Pawar in a series of tweet said, "Met Narendra Modi in Parliament today to discuss the issues of farmers in Maharashtra. This year the seasonal rainfall has created Havoc engulfing 325 talukas of Maharashtra causing heavy damage of crops over 54.22 lakh hectares of area."

Cong-NCP likely to meet today

As per sources, top leaders of the Congress and NCP are likely to meet in the national capital on Wednesday, November 20. The NCP and Congress leaders are expected to discuss a myriad of issues. They are likely to give a final shape to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of both parties. Sources reveal that as soon as the final draft of the CMP is approved by the high command of both parties, discussions with the Shiv Sena would be held.
