Massive controversy has broken out and the BJP is up in arms after a poster making a derogatory attack at the Prime Minister's humble origins was placed in a place of quite some eminence at the location - AP Bhawan in New Delhi - where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is sitting on a day-long dharna and fast.

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya has taken on the Opposition on the matter, posting a video of the placard, which is placed in a symbolic way at a sacred looking spot. It carries a quite crude message, saying ‘जिसके हाथ में चाय का झूठा कप देना था, उसके हाथ में जनता ने देश दे दिया’।, the one whose hand in which a used cup should have been given, in his hands the country has been given.

The controversy broke out shortly after Chandrababu Naidu made a public address at the venue where he is holding his high-profile dharna and day-long fast demanding that the Centre grant special status to Andhra Pradesh and fulfil all promises made before its bifurcation in 2014.

A number of Opposition party leaders - including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal - are expected to extend their support.

Before beginning the fast, Naidu offered tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat and to B R Ambedkar at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan. A TDP delegation led by Naidu will submit a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind as well.

Naidu has been trying to unite the opposition parties to take on the BJP in the general elections. Over the last three months, he has held a number of meetings with the opposition party leaders on forming an anti-BJP front. His last appearance in this regard was just last week when in his presence and upon his appeal, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee called off her dharna after three days in the dramatic CBI versus Kolkata Police standoff matter.
