Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik raked up controversy with his remarks at a public platform, saying that the terrorists "should kill corrupt politicians who have looted the wealth of state", rather than security forces and innocent people. Responding to controversy over his appeal to terrorists, the J&K Governor said that he made those statements in a fit of anger and frustration, owing to increasing corruption among political leaders in the state.
"Whatever I said was in utter frustration and anger over what I have seen (corruption) in the past few years here (J&K). The politicians have so much money, earlier they had nothing, now they have multiple houses and investments," said Malik in an exclusive interview to Republic TV.
Regretting his comments, the Satya Pal Malik said that while he should not have made that statement as a Governor, his personal feeling over corrupt political leaders and bureaucrats is the same.
"As Governor, I should have not made such a comment, but if I would not have been a Governor, I would have said that same thing. I said it out of conviction and in anger that nothing happens to them. We have to fight decisive battle against corruption in Kashmir now," he added.
He went on to hit out at National Conference leader Omar Abdullah over his tweet on his appeal to terrorists. Satya Pal Malik called Omar Abdullah a 'political juvenile' on every matter.
"He is behaving like a political juvenile. He tweets on everything, but one must see the comments of people on his tweets. 90 out of 100 people slam him. He must talk in his senses," Malik said.
Speaking over the Centre's fight against corruption, Malik said that strict action should be taken against corrupt people. He said that he will not tolerate anyone who will carry out corrupt activities.
The J&K Governor made the controversial statement while addressing the locals at Kargil. He asked the terrorists to kill 'corrupt politicians and bureaucrats who have robbed their state,' instead of killing security personnel and innocent citizens.
"These youth with guns, they are killing PSOs and SPOs, why are you killing them? You should kill those who have looted Kashmir, have you killed anyone from them? They lose their lives for nothing. In India, nobody can bend the government with guns," the Governor had said.
Retaliating to Malik's comments, Omar Abdullah had taken to Twitter and Malik "ostensibly a responsible man occupying a constitutional position" tells the terrorists to kill politicians who are perceived to be corrupt.
The former Jammu and Kashmir CM also targeted Satya Pal Malik, saying that the killing of bureaucrats in the state will be because of J&K Governor's express orders.
