On his departure from Pakistan through Wagha Border, the controversial Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu spoke words of progress and reconciliation, after his visit to the Kartarpur Corridor ceremony.

Overwhelmed with optimism, Sidhu called this initiative by Imran Khan and the Indian government 'a floodgate towards prosperity.'

"This Corridor will enhance contact between people and economic prosperity. The possibility of both Punjabs (Indian Punjab and Pakistan Punjab) joining, by opening the border of Firozpur and Amritsar is a boon to progress."

At Wagha border, the Punjab leader said, " I got a lot of blessings from Baba Nanak. We've waited 71 years for this. I hope we build good hearts on both sides. Its a miracle of God, opening of Kartarpur Corridor means the opening of 1000 doors."

From the onset of this journey to his departure, Sidhu has managed to spark controversies at home. Questioned on his photograph with Pakistan terrorist and founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba Hafiz Saeed's aide, Gopal Chawla he said, "There was so much love. People took five thousand, ten thousand photos with me in Pakistan, I don't remember Chawla, I don't know who is he."

Chawla who shared a picture with Sidhu on social media and called him 'his brother' exclusively spoke to Republic TV. During the conversation, the pro-Khalistani leader confirmed of meeting with Sidhu upon his arrival in Pakistan, however, denied the reports of a closed-door meeting with the Congress leader.

"I met him at the Governor House. This photo was taken on November 27 when Sidhu has come to Pakistan. I met him at the Governor House where we had organized a programme for him. I got the chance the shake hands with him and click a photo with him. I only took a photo with Sidhu. He was our guest. I took a photo with SGPC Chief Gobind Singh Longowal also. Is it a crime to take a picture with anyone? There was no meeting. I had no talks with him. I just took a picture with him. Who allows poor people like us to meet these sort of big people.here was so much security given to Sidhu that I could not have a meeting with him," Gopal Singh Chawla said while speaking to Republic TV.
