The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government led by Prem Singh Tamang completed one year in office on Wednesday.

Exactly a year back on this day, Tamang was sworn-in as the chief minister of Sikkim after he had led his party to a stunning victory in the state assembly polls over the then five-term Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling-led Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF).

The celebrations on completion of one year in power has been muted largely due to coronavirus pandemic in India, including Sikkim, with the state government pulling all its resources and manpower to contain the deadly disease.

Taking out time from his busy schedule, the 52-year- old chief minister, in a Facebook post, thanked the people of Sikkim for giving a mandate for 'Parivartan' (change) and new possibilities.

"The responsibility entrusted on us has encouraged and inspired us to provide our people with the best (governance) they deserve with transparency being the hallmark (of the SKM government)," the SKM founding president said.

Tamang said that his government was people and youth- centric and the doors remained always open for Sikkim and its people.

Dwelling on his experiences during one year in power, the chief minister said that the journey thus far has been challenging as well as satisfying with some systematic changes and fine-tuning.

"We have been able to serve the people with utmost sincerity and dedication and will continue to nurture the seed of overall development," he said.

With Sikkim too coming in the grip of Covid-19 pandemic after keeping it at bay for more than two and a half months since its spread in India, the chief minister urged the people against panicking saying that his government was well equipped and ready to tackle the situation.

On priorities of his government during the remaining four years of the current term, he said that the future will be full of possibilities and slowly but surely all the promises made to the people will be fulfilled.

"I assure you that together we can emerge victoriously and set an example for the world," Tamang said.
