Following the Sonbhadra incident where ten people were killed over a land dispute, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has spoken about it after visiting the affected villages in the district. He alleged the main accused in the case is a Samajwadi Party worker and also blamed the Congress for sowing the seeds of the dispute adding that a committee will be formed to look into land dispute since 1955. 

"On July 17, there was a bloody fight in which ten people died and several were injured, the government offers sincere condolences to the victims. I got an opportunity to meet with the family of the victims. Soon after the incident, there was a probe ordered against SDM, CO SHO and DGP. The SP, DSP, and constable from Ghorawal were suspended earlier. Twenty-nine people including the village chief have been arrested, five weapons have been seized. There is an attempt to bereave them of rights through conspiracy. 

"We have announced Rs 2.5 lakh compensation for the injured and Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the deceased. We have decided to open a Police Chowki in the area and Fire tender too. Action has been taken against the DG and the ADG based on initial reports. I have gone to the village and there were complaints against the vilage chief.

"The root of the incident lies in 1955 when the land was given to a trust of Congress MLC. In 1989, the land was given to the members of the trust. Instead of shedding crocodile tears, Congress should apologise to the tribals as they are responsible for the incident. A new committee has been formed to look into all the land disputes pertaining to this area since 1955. We will not let anyone to target the tribals," he said.

"...The main accused, the village chief Yagya Dutt is a Samajwadi Party worker, his brother is in Bahujan Samaj Party," the CM added.

Ten tribal farmers were killed allegedly over a land dispute. Apart from the 10 killed, 18 others were injured on Wednesday when they resisted an attempt by village head Yagya Dutt and his supporters to take possession of the 90 bighas of disputed land in the district's Ghorawal area. The men accompanying the village head had allegedly opened fire, killing nine people on the spot.
