Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appeared on an exclusive interview with Republic's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on Republic Bharat on Sunday, hours after the West Bengal government denied permission for the UP CM's rally in the state.
While Adityanath ended up addressing the rally remotely via phone, while speaking, he lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee led government in West Bengal citing the TMC government to be undemocratic and communal, unlike his UP government.
He even accused the TMC government of pressurising the officials to obstruct his entry from the state.
Adityanath said that the permission for his events had been sought and approved, but the nod for the helicopter's landing was denied, with the officials concerned citing 'pressure from above'.
He said, "The permit application was submitted by my party, and I had even received the permissions. They had given written permission but gave us no permission to land the helicopter. The administration had firmly said that we've been pressurised, we can't give permission. This proves, to hide her weaknesses, TMC's government is taking such undemocratic steps against their political rivals."
He highlighted how attempts had similarly been made to deny permission for the BJP's Rath Yatras, and also BJP party chief Amit Shah's rally, hitting out at "so-called secularists" and the 'undemocratic' direction they want to take the country to.
He said, "Today I had two of my events, both my events were blocked by TMC leader Mamata Banerjee's government. Prior to this, our party leader, Amit Shah's rally and save democracy rath yatra such hindrances were caused. These things prove the demeanour and manner of these so-called secularists towards the Ambedkar's Constitution and in what direction do they want to take the country's democracy."
Earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath was denied permission by the Trinamool government in the state to conduct a rally. Yogi Adityanath was scheduled to address a rally in North Dinajpur, near Malda on February 3. The BJP claimed that the permission was denied without any prior notice.
