Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP from Katihar in Bihar Tariq Anwar has announced his resignation from the Lok Sabha membership as well as his primary membership of the party. Tariq Anwar took the decision to step down as he didn’t like NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s defence of PM Modi on Rafale deal following the statement by former French President Francois Hollande.

In an interview to a Marathi news channel, Sharad Pawar defended PM Modi over the Rafale controversy and urged people to not “have doubts over PM Modi’s intentions”. Pawar also added that there is no sense in the opposition demand, asking the government to share the technical details relating to the fighter jet.

In his resignation letter, maintaining distance from the NCP Chief’s statement, Anwar that the statement by the former French President made it clear that PM Modi was involved in the Rafale scam and that the latter has failed so far to prove his innocence in the matter. He further wrote that “in such situation, the statement made by Sharad is defending PM Modi, and I am in absolute disagreement with that and hence resigning from the party and the Lok Sabha seat.”
