Latest inputs from the intelligence sources indicate that terrorists in Pakistan are training for underwater strike capabilities in a bid to infiltrate into India by sea or waterways.

Latest inputs from the intelligence sources indicate that terrorists in Pakistan are training for underwater strike capabilities in a bid to infiltrate into India by sea or waterways.

The inputs also indicate that Pakistan-based terrorists organisation had exhorted its cadres for samudri (sea) Jihad against India.

In a response to a question by Shiv Sena's Anil Desai to Mos Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir, the minister has confirmed that there have been inputs on terrorists in Pakistan are training for underwater strike capabilities.

He has also said that there is no input on LeT planning a 26/11 type attack on Port, Cargo and oil tankers in high seas, but  India was equipped to deal with the situation if it arises.

On December 26, 2018, a massive day-long operation at 16 locations across Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi was carried by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in tandem with the Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The agencies revealed that the suspects and those arrested  were part of an ISIS-inspired module and had planned to carry out a series of blasts. The agencies informed that they were at an advanced stage of their preparation for the same.

Here is a list of what the agencies found during the raids:

  • Large quantity of weapons
  • Explosive materials
  • A country-made rocket launcher
  • Rs 7.5 lakh
  • 100+ mobile phones
  • 135 sim cards
  • Laptops and memory cards
  • 120 alarm clocks and batteries (to make detonators)
  • Along with that, 25 kilos of explosive chemicals were also found including potassium nitrate, potassium chlorate, sugar paste, sulphur and
  • bomb-making tutorials

In the raids, pipes were found as according to the NIA officer they were strategizing to prepare pipe bombs. They were planning both remote IED (Improvised Explosive Device) attacks, as well as fidayeen (suicide bombing) attacks as suicide vests were also seized.
