Trinamool responds to MHA over law and order situation in West Bengal, says advisory issued 'without verifying ground reality'

The ruling Trinamool Congress on Sunday described as "political conspiracy" the advisory from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to the West Bengal government on the law enforcement machinery in the state and said it would respond 'appropriately'. In its response, it said that the advisory was issued without verifying ground reality. 

In the letter to the Home Minister undersigned by Partha Chatterjee, General Secretary of West Bengal Trinamool Congress Committee said blamed it on the MCC for the dysfunctioning of law and order in the state. Adding to it said that the ' BJP goons took advantage of the situation and perpetrated violence and chaos in the state."

On the incident on June 8 in North 24 Parganas, the letter said that the state government has asked for an enquiry and detailed report of the incident and has taken every step to contain the situation and maintain peace and normalcy in the area.

The letter went on to ask the MHA that whether such an advisory has been issued in the state of Uttar Pradesh where it has been alleged that 25 people of Yadav community was killed. The letter objected the MHA advisory.

The Union Home Ministry advisory had expressed "deep concern" over continuing violence and directed the state government to uphold law and order, peace and public tranquillity.The advisory was issued in the aftermath of political clashes in North 24 Parganas district's Sandeshkhali that left four people dead since Saturday. It called it a “failure on part of the state government” to ensure law and order.

“The unabated violence over the past weeks appears to be a failure on the part of the law enforcement machinery of the state to maintain the rule of law and inspire confidence among people,” the Home Ministry advisory said.

It was “strongly advised” to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquillity, the statement said. “It is also requested to take strict action against officials found delinquent in discharge of their duty,” the advisory added.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi is meeting the Prime Minister in New Delhi on June 10. However, he said that it is a courtesy meeting.
