Earlier on Thursday, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government had stated before the Allahabad High Court which had taken suo moto cognisance that there wasn't concrete evidence against Sengar in the case, and hence, he wasn't to be arrested.

The UP government's statement came after the shocking statement issued by the UP DGP wherein he addressed the rape accused BJP MLA as "Mananiya MLA". When asked why was he showing respect to a rape accused, the DGP said, "I am giving respect because he is an MLA."

On Sunday, the rape victim, along with her family members, had tried to commit suicide in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Lucknow alleging that she was raped by BJP leader and his fellow accomplices.

Later, the victim's father had been taken into police custody from the location. However, he was admitted to a hospital on Sunday night after complaining of abdominal pain and vomiting and subsequently passed away in the early hours of Monday.
