Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday broke down into tear while making the obituary references for former Union Minister and senior Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy, who passed away in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Remembering his 40-years long association with Reddy, Venkaiah Naidu spoke on how Jaipal Reddy was an outstanding orator and able administrator.
"I had the privilege of working with him for two terms in Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Both of us used to sit on the same bench. We used to effectively argue the people's cause in our own way," he said while addressing the Rajya Sabha.
Getting emotional on the demise of his long term friend, the Vice President shared how Reddy guided him through his journey.
"He has been my friend, senior and also he used to guide me. I am six years younger to him. We deeply mourn the passing away of Jaipal Reddy," Naidu added.
Following Rajya Sabha Chairman's obituary reference, the members of the Upper House observed two-minutes silence remembering Jaipal Reddy. Later, Naidu recalled the days when both the leaders used to meet over breakfast and discussed over issues ahead of the Andhra Pradesh assembly sessions. He concluded by apologising for not being able to control his emotion over the demise of Reddy, who he said has been his friend for 40 years.
"Those days Assembly used to meet at 8 a.m. Both of us used to meet at 7 a.m. to discuss issues over breakfast. The amount of knowledge...the depth of understanding...mastery of languages...he was really remarkable. I am sorry, I could not control my emotions due to my 40-years of personal association," he added expressing pain the death of Jaipal Reddy.
Senior Congress leader and S Jaipal Reddy passed away on Sunday at the age of 77. Venkaiah Naidu visited his resident to pay his last respects to the former Union Minister and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed leader.
