A day before the press conference to be held by BSP chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, party president Amit Shah addressed 12.000 workers at the inaugural address at the party's national convention at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

The two-day national convention at Ramlila Maidan will be intensive one for the party as it starts brainstorming for the Lok Sabha polls.

Calling the general elections a battle between two ideologies, said asserted that his party stands for cultural nationalism and development of poor, while the rivals have come together merely for power.

Shah said the opposition’s grand alliance, which he added has no policy and programme, enjoyed no nationwide influence. "The BJP had defeated each one of them in the 2014 general elections," he said.

Shah said his party will win more Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh than it did in 2014. The Bharatiya Janata Party had won 71 seats from the State that sends 80 Lok Sabha MPs to the lower House.

On the poll-battle in Uttar Pradesh:

"The Bua-Bhatiha are coming together for alliance in Uttar Pradesh.  I am in constant touch with the state unit & I can confidently say that the number of seats we win this time can become 74, but will not decrease to 72. It is BJP vs everybody. We will tackle them," he said.

Attack on the Congress:

"One family ruled the country for 55 years, the poor were disconnected from banking services under Congress' rule," he said attacking the grand old party.

"Out on bail, Rahul Gandhi and co are levelling allegations against PM Modi. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that mere alleging will not work. They wanted a discussion on Rafale deals, they thought the government will not discuss Rafale issue .. but Congress was left red-faced by Nirmala Sitharaman," he said about Congress' allegation on Centre over the Rafale deal.

He also said that the party is creating obstacles in the Ram Mandir case, which will be heard at the apex court. "There's a case running in Supreme Court, we are trying that a verdict comes out soon. We want the Ram Mandir to be built by law but the Congress party is not leaving an opportunity to cause hurdles. Senior leader Kapil Sibal said that the case should run after the elections, Congress party should take a clear stand."

On the likes of loan defaulters like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, he said, "Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya got loans under Congress rule. They feel the need to flee then. But when the Chowkidaar came to power. These chors will be caught by the Chowkidaar."

On Congress and Christian Michel, he said, "Every Defence deal was done through a middleman in Congress rule, now that Michel mama is caught, they are feeling the heat."

On NRC in Assam:

"We implemented NRC from Assam to identify illegal immigrants in the country as it is important for national security... Congress opposing it (NRC) and against the extradition of illegal immigrants because they are eying at vote bank for their political mileage," Shah said.

On BJP's commitment to Ram Mandir:

Shah said that the party wants to construct the Mandir at the earliest. "BJP wants Ram Mandir to be constructed at the earliest. We are trying in the Supreme Court that the case reaches its conclusion but Congress here also is trying to create obstacles," he said.

In the manifesto of 2014, we had promised the pitch for Ram Mandir. BJP wants to build the massive Ram Mandir on the very spot on Ram's janmabhoomi, there is no doubt about that.
