In a major development days after the tussle between Punjab Cheif Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Aam Aadmi Party has said that they welcome Sidhu to their party.
Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party's member Harpal Singh Cheema in his address in Ludhiana Saturday said that the right party for the Sidhu is AAP.
"AAP is the correct party for Navjot Singh Sidhu because he will be able to breathe openly and express whatever he wants. We welcome him. Arvind ji is also ready," Cheema said.
In 2016 when Navjot Singh Sidhu left the BJP, speculations were there that he may join the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP. However, Sidhu joined the grand-old Congress party.
Indicating that talks between Sidhu and Kejriwal were on, Kejriwal had said in a tweet, “He met me last week. Did not put any pre-condition. He needs time to think. Let us respect that.” “Would Navjot Sidhu ji join AAP-lot of rumours? It is my duty to put forward our side. We have the greatest regard for cricket legend,” the chief minister had added. Here's Delhi CM's tweet from 2016:
Sidhu's wife, Navjot Kaur had also said while speaking to media that AAP is the only option for Sidhu.
“I think he (Sidhu) has very clearly suggested what he is going to do and in the coming days let him come out with this [his future plans]. He has said that he wants to serve Punjab and there is no choice except serving from Aam Aadmi Party,” Kaur said back in 2017 before Sidhu joined Congress.
Bringing the tussle in the Punjab Congres to the forefront, Sidhu's portfolio was changed by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Follwing it, Sidhu met Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Ahmed Patel.
Taking to Twitter, he said that he handed over a letter to Rahul Gandhi apprising him of the situation. It is speculated that the letter is about the ongoing tussle in the Punjab Congress between Sidhu and Captain. He also shared a picture in which he is standing with Congress chief at his right and Priyanka Vadra at his left. Ahmed Patel is also seen in the picture.
Sidhu has been at loggerheads with the Punjab Chief Minister after he denied Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. Accusing the SM of disrespecting women, she had called the Punjab chief minister 'Junior Captain'. He had stood by his wife attacking the CM in a veiled attack one day before the polls saying that 'a vote cannot be underestimated and it should be used to blast those who are colluding to backstab the Congress.
Retorting to Congress Leader Navjot Singh Sidhu's jibe on his wife's allegation of being denied a ticket, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday has said that Sidhu's comments, one day prior to the election, will affect the Party and not him.
