Five hours after Republic broke the story of Bengal BJP chief Kailash Vijayawargiya's son Akash Vijayvargiya beating the government official with bats, Police in Indore arrested him on Wednesday.
"Police said that cases have been registered against them on sections IPC 353 147, 148. They have registered cases against 100 people," Police said.
Speaking to Republic TV, victim Hirendra Vyas said: " I am satisfied and I am trying to identify others. He was not happy with the work of the municipal corporation, I was undertaking those work, therefore, he started beating."
Following his arrest, his supporters created ruckus on the road. In a shocking incident of physical brutality, BJP MLA Akash Vijayavargiya was caught on camera thrashing civic workers in broad daylight at Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 26 June. Civic officials had visited the area to tear down a building as a part of the anti-encroachment drive following which Akash Vijaavargiya appeared at the scene and started to physically assault the officials, as BJP party workers joined him in the beating.
Video of the assault shows Akash chasing and beating the officials with a cricket bat, slapping them and tearing their clothes. The MLA verbally abuses these officials as the police officials stand mum, watching him mount the attack on the officials. He used the police lathis and kicked the officials. The police, who initially looked on, controlled the agitated MLA after much of the beating had taken place. The BJP workers joined the beating, following the leader, in chasing the officials to assault them.
Following the goondaism that was witnessed on the streets of Indore, Republic confronted Akash Vijayvargiya. In retaliation to which, the BJP MLA blatantly stated that 'he will not back off' and that he is a 'voted MLA and will do anything'
He said, "Indore Municipal Corporation is behaving like gundas, they are in tie-up with Congress leaders. I am a leader chosen by the people. I will not back off from the attack. I have been voted by the people to serve them. I will do whatever it takes even if it means lifting a bat and stopping officials. I stand by my actions."
He further stated that 'gangs were dragging women out of the houses by their feet and women police were not present there following which people chased the officials and beat them. He said that he would be filing an FIR against the officials.
