WATCH: Congress Issues Warning To ED And CBI, Threatens Revenge For Action In Ongoing Cases

  • The Congress has issued a warning to probe agencies
  • Anand Sharma has told the ED and CBI that the new government (after 2019 elections) would 'decide' for everyone who has 'misused' power on Modi and Shah's behalf
  • The Congress has regularly alleged 'political vendetta' in response to all cases against its leaders

On a day where Congress corruption once again became a talking point following CBI raids against former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda in the Manesar land deal case and a FIR was lodged against Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik in a Rs 32 crore fraud case, the party has openly warned probe agencies, threatening revenge against personnel once a new government comes to power.

Addressing a briefing on the matter, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said that action would be taken against those who are involved in "harassing and defaming Modi and Shah's political rivals"

"They (agencies) have not found anything new (in the cases) and if they had they would have placed it in front of courts. CBI and ED have become the government's tool, they must work based on the law. They should not target the Centre's rivals. In a few months there will be polls and there will be a new government and it will decide for every person, every institution, which has misused their powers on behalf of Modi and Shah and harassed and defamed their political rivals," he said.

The Congress has routinely alleged "political vendetta" being the reason behind virtually all the cases that are ongoing against their leaders, whether it be the National Herald case against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, the Aircel-Maxis and INX Media cases against former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the allegations against Robert Vadra in the Skylight Hospitality case, and even the Fodder Scam convictions as a result of which Lalu Prasad is lodged in jail.
