Moments after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was formally inducted into the Congress party as its General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed it as the failure of party president Rahul Gandhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the reporters on Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on the Congress president, accusing the party of 'dynasty rule' in the political landscape.
While Dr Sambit Patra congratulated Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her appointment as the Congress' General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh, he asserted that it is the failure of Rahul Gandhi as the president of a national party of the country.
"A coronation ceremony happened today within the main family of the Congress party. But it is natural that the Congress party which terms itself as the Indian National Congress is the party of a 'family'. There's no doubt in that. I would like to congratulate the Congress party. It has been assured by the way Congress has publicly declared the failure of Rahul Gandhi, who was the president of the party, with appointing Priyanka Gandhi, member of their own family, that he needs support to fight the elections. This is a huge thing. He has been getting snubbed by the Mahaghathbandhan from every state, there has been a difference within the Mahagathbandhan. It has been proved that Rahul Gandhi needs support," said the BJP spokesperson.
Further questioning the Congress party on the dynastic dictatorship of the Gandhi family over the Indian politics, he pointed out the difference between the Congress and the BJP.
'"The new India is questioning - why after Nehruji, - Indiraji - Rajivji - Soniaji - Rahulji - and then Priyanka Vadra and who else after them - from a single family. This is the difference between BJP and Congress. In BJP, the party is family while in Congress family is the party. It proves that Rahul Gandhi has failed," he added,
Earlier on Wednesday, while exclusively to Republic TV, senior BJP leader Chandra Kumar Bose also came hard at the Congress party for promoting one-party politics.
"It is quite expected (Priyanka Gandhi joining politics). Congress is a dynastic dictatorship. It is consisting of people from one particular family who calls the shots. In fact, we were expecting that Priyanka Gandhi will join much earlier. I think she has joined a bit late in the day. Today, Congress has a heritage. Congress has a national tradition," he said.
On Wednesday afternoon, in an official statement, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced that Priyanka Gandhi has been appointed as the General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, and will take charge from February 1.
