Hours after West Bengal government refused to give permission for BJP president Amit Shah's helicopter to land in Malda district citing 'safety issues', TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee took a U-turn on her government's decision saying that 'it allowed the BJP party to hold public rallies'. She also claimed to have changed the rules for her helicopter landings on the requests of West Bengal police, adding that the police is the final authority in the matter.

"Permission given but there are security issues. I also changed my helicopter landing as per the police request. Law and order, police is the final authority here. We have granted all the permission for the meetings, because we believe in democracy. They have asked hold meetings in public places. We have given all the permission," said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee while speaking to reporters in the matter on Monday.

Further targeting BJP, she said that the party is twisting the information and misinforming people.

"For helicopter landing, police give the permission. They are distorting the people, misinforming them. It is absolutely not true, we are not BJP," she added.

Earlier on Monday, Republic TV accessed the letter by West Bengal government wherein it has denied permission for BJP chief Amit Shah's helicopter landing, a day ahead of his rally in the Malda district. Union Law Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has hit out at the TMC-led government over the 'false' reason for 'not being safe' and 'under construction' for denial. He had alleged that Mamata Banerjee used the Malda airport few days ago and it is in good condition.

"Our party president Amit Shah was to address a rally in Malda in West Bengal. But permission had been refused for his helicopter to land on the ground saying that renovation work is going on & some construction material is there at the airport. At the same helipad, Mamata ji's helicopter landed a few days ago. Some journalists went there, I have pictures, it is neat & clean. Helicopters are landing & can land. Based on baseless falsehood, by abuse of govt power, helicopter of Amit Shah ji had been denied," the Union Minister said.

After facing the wrath of BJP leaders in the light of the controversial move, the West Bengal government later allowed the Amit Shah's helicopter landing at Malda airport.
