Batting for talks with Hurriyat, Mehbooba Mufti - former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief said that the Central government must talk with the moderate faction of the Hurriyat who are ready for talks. This is not the first time that Mufti has criticised the Central government for not bringing the Hurriyat to the negotiation table in solving the situation in Kashmir valley. Moreover, she has also accused the Central government of not resuming talks in the valley despite huge mandate in the 2014 elections and now in 2019 elections.
Speaking to media at Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, Mufti said:
"We had urged that people should give mandate so that we can push the Central govt for talks, but we didn't get the mandate. BJP did. If they want then they can solve the problem. Rajnath Singh ji kept saying that he is ready for talks but from here there was no response. The mistake that our separatist leaders did at that time, now Central Government is repeating the same mistake. They have time and opportunity talk with moderate faction of Hurriyat."
She also added that in 2016 when the situation was worsen then parliamentary delegation was send from India consisting of BJP minister Ram Vilas Paswan, D Raja, Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav, Owaisi, she said that they all attempted to talk with Hurriyat. But unfortunately that time that thing was unable to continue. She then said that even Dineshwar Sharm, the interlocutory who was given the rank of cabinet secretary was not able to held talks with Hurriyat.
A few days ago after Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik announced that they are ready for talks with the stakeholders, National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah had said that if Hurriyat is ready for talks then talks should be there. Speaking to media on the announcement of the Jammu & Kashmir governor he said, "There should be talks with everyone and there should be talks with Pakistan too." ("Governor saheb ne khud kaha hai ki Hurriyat taiyar hai baatchit ke liye, to is par baat karni chahiye. Harek se baatchit honi chahiye aur Pakistan se bhi baat honi chahiye")
