In yet another scathing attack on the Congress party over the National Herald case, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani has accused Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi of hiding their income and stopping the media from reporting the facts.

Speaking exclusively to Republic TV's editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, the former HRD minister said, "When Rahul Gandhi had no interest to publish a newspaper, why did he buy a company that printed newspaper? Why would Rahul Gandhi bar the media from covering the case? He wants to hide his own financial transactions. Rahul Gandhi talks of transparency, but hides his own financial transactions."

The TV actress turned politician also took a dig at the Congress President over the comments made by former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. "Yesterday was a significant day in the history of Congress, as Raghuram Rajan said that UPA was responsible for the NPAs. History has shown every time the Gandhis have broken the law, be it emergency or tax evasion, there is a judicial process that will bring them to face the law," she added.

Finally, the present textiles minister challenged Rahul Gandhi of winning even one seat in the upcoming elections. She concluded by saying, "Amethi battle is already lost for Rahul Gandhi. He has to look for more pastures. Rahul Gandhi will not win even one Vidhan Sabha seat. Mr Gandhi, Don’t evade the taxes."

Earlier in the day, she had raised a similar attack on the party and the Gandhi's over this very matter. At a press conference, she had said, "Rahul Gandhi doesn’t mind hugging Prime Minister Modi. But he keeps running away from CBI officials. He says he is a champion of freedom of speech and has still not allowed media to cover the National Herald Case.

On August 14, the Congress President had appeared in the Delhi High Court after the I-T department accused him of concealing income in the years 2011-2012 by not disclosing that he was a director in Young Indian Private Limited (YIL). The same day, Sonia Gandhi and Oscar Fernandes, too, had moved the Delhi High Court, challenging the reopening of their assessments by the income-tax regarding the Young Indian-National Herald transactions.

This came after Republic TV had accessed a 463-page- report, the 'Rahul Gandhi tax file'. The tax file had made a stunning revelation that the Income Tax department sent three notices to Rahul Gandhi for tax evasion in the years 2011-2012.
