In a massive win for the government and an equally significant loss for the opposition in the allegations over the Rafale deal, the Supreme Court has delivered a massive victory to the Modi government by dismissing all petitions seeking a court-monitored inquiry into the government-to-government deal between India and France for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets.

Pronouncing its verdict on petitions by Prashant Bhushan and others, the CJI-led three-judge bench of the Supreme Court said that it had examined the petitions along three aspects after having first tried to find out the power of judicial reviews for defence matters.

Following the verdict, Rahul Gandhi remained fixed on his stand, continuing to allege that the deal was a scam. His next line of argument saw the Congress president pointing to an aspect of the court verdict that spoke of a Comptroller and Auditor General report on the pricing in the Rafale deal. He said that the CAG report was not provided to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Mallikarjun Kharge.

Here's what Republic TV's editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami had to say about the Rafale deal and Rahul Gandhi's reaction following the Supreme Court's verdict, on The Debate:

Good evening and welcome. Today, the Supreme Court dismissed the demand for an investigation into Rafale. Now, this is very important On all three aspects, the contract, the pricing and the offset, the court, which is India's highest court examined, went into detail, scrutinised the matter and dismissed it. The whole case was dismissed. What does this mean? This means, there was no scam. If there had been a scam India's highest court would have said so. If there was a Rafale scam India's highest court would not have let go and investigated it. It hasn't done that. Because there isn't anything wrong. Rafale is therefore proven to be one big lie. And this is after the Supreme Court scutinising the matter. The Supreme Court had all the evidence before it. and what do we find out? It was a fake story. It was a Lutyens generated script that has fallen flat. Tonight, on a night when the whole Rafale lie was substantiated to be one by the verdict of India's highest court, we ask, if this was the basis of the chowkidar chor hai line? Will those who scripted it apologise to the entire nation?
